Many social gurus have tried to come up with varied approach on this one. For social media, this question is as ubiquitous as ‘How to become rich quickly’. As we all know there are no short-cuts or a perfect solution to the latter, same is with social media.

Being a practitioner on social media and based on the certain trends I have observed in the market, here are few content tips to make it grow viral on social media age –

Incorporate latest trends that resonates with your target audience – A cliché statement but understanding your target audience and what are they liking, talking, sharing has to be of prime importance for creating content. However, it is not that one has to always share content relevant to their industry. Social media has given an opportunity for organizations to also use the medium for informal communications.

Hence, it is always good to strike at the right time with the right time. Say a simple example like recent buzz on net neutrality and not many knowing completely on the topic, it can be used by consulting firms, analytics or to some IT services firm to build content and share their views around it. Though net neutrality not directly effects their business operations.

Leverage a social listening tool that helps identify the latest trends so that less time is wasted in collating it manually.

Use facts & numbers – This generally has been seen to capture attention as numbers are quick to recall and connect. Numbers can be used for excitement such as ‘42% increased their Social ROI in 3 months through us’ or instill fear like ‘You will lose 20% of customers to competitors because of no response to complaints on social media’

In fact, I will like to attribute the success of Listicles also to fascination of numbers. Top 5, Top 10…you get my point, right?

Pick a controversial topic – As it says ‘any publicity is good publicity’. If bold enough, try picking and writing on some controversial topic and you will definitely get many eyeballs. Lot of lifestyle magazines and bloggers use this tactic to grow views and readership. In-fact even in software product industry it is not uncommon to have a title like – ‘Why I hate XYZ’ or ‘My reasons to favor XYZ over ABC’.

Use of audio-visuals – text has made way for visuals, infographics and short videos. Even B2B sectors are slowly picking the trend.

Experiment with publishing time – This holds the key for constant experimentation and optimization. However, it is also tough to do the same manually. Choose a tool that can help you auto-schedule content for your networks. A drill down on insights on various posting times can help you determine what content works for what type of audience and at what time.

Every tip might not be relevant for every single content out there but hoping this gets you started with writing content that resonates! After all, it is no rocket science.
